My main breakfast while on The Daniel Plan has been a smoothie and an egg. I don’t like to eat raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries. I think it’s a texture thing with the raspberries and blackberries. I don’t like the grit. BUT if you take those berries and blend them up I will drink them. And happily so. So in an effort to get the great nutrients in the berries into my diet I have been making a lot of smoothies. Here’s my favorite recipe that I’ve come up with:
Berry Smoothie
- 3/4 cup of ice
- 1/2 a frozen banana
- 3/4 cup frozen berries {blackberries, raspberries, blueberries}
- a handful of baby spinach leaves
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup orange juice
Put the ice in the blender first, then the banana, berries, and baby spinach leaves. And for those of you who are squeamish about drinking spinach, you can’t taste it at all. I promise.
Then I pour in a little bit of the water. Turn on the blender and slowly add in the rest of the water through the little hole in the top.
Then do the same with the orange juice. Let it keep going until it’s all blended nicely. Enjoy!
For the Daniel Plan it’s important to avoid chemicals so when buying frozen fruit, be sure to check the ingredients on the back of the bag to be sure that nothing was added to the frozen fruit. I got a bag of frozen blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries from Sam’s Club and it doesn’t have any extra chemicals or preservatives in it.
This smoothie is well beloved by the animals in our home as well.
