Details

I’m reading along with Good Morning Girls in the book of Exodus and as I read through chapters 26-30 this week I couldn’t help but be struck by the details.  God lays out some very specific instructions for the tabernacle and worship in these chapters.  He didn’t just say “Go build a tent”.  God was specific about materials, dimensions, and colors (among other things).

Our God is a god of detail.  He cares a great deal… and not just about things, but about people.

God cares very deeply about us and his affection is evident in his knowledge of us.

• Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…”
• Matthew 10:30 “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”
  

That’s a deep knowledge and a deep love.  He loves us so much that he cares to know every little thing about us.

I’ve always held a particular fondness for the verses around Matthew 10:30 because they are so reassuring.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31)

The specificity of God’s instructions regarding the tabernacle and worship in Exodus may seem silly or excessive to some, but I think it shows just how important God’s relationship to the people is to Him.  And we may not have as specific of instructions for our churches or worship now, but the one thing that remains is the importance of the relationship.  God desires a relationship with his people and it is of the utmost importance to him.
