What I’m Learning in the Bible: 1 Thessalonians

I’m excited that we are starting to study a new book in the Bible together as a church. We are staring 1 Thessalonians.

1 Thessalonians

I’m going to basically journal through what I’m learning as I go through the book. This by no means will be a comprehensive study or anything super academic, this is just my thoughts and questions and what I feel God is teaching me as we go through the book.

Background

To remind myself of the context and background of 1 Thessalonians I watched the 1 Thessalonians summary from the Bible Project on Youtube. I love their resources and my kids do too.

1 Thessalonians 1

This is such a short chapter. It’s a letter, so it makes sense that it begins with a greeting. I love that we have all these letters in the New Testament. There’s so much in it for us but also it just reminds me of what the early church was like and how God was moving as the church grew and spread.

I love how in verse 3 Paul says “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” For whatever reason it just really hits me that hope in Jesus is the fuel of endurance.

The Thessalonians understood this as they were being persecuted which we learn in this letter from Paul. The older I get the more I understand the importance of hope in being able to persevere through the hard stuff in life.

This was short and sweet so I read it through a couple of times this week and I look forward to learning more as I go. Have any thoughts to share? I would love to hear them in the comments below!
