What I’m Learning in the Bible: 1 Thessalonians 5

We finished up studying 1 Thessalonians in church a few weeks ago but I never got around to sharing my thoughts on chapter 5 so I’m doing that today! his by no means will be a comprehensive study or anything super academic, this is just my thoughts and questions and what I feel God is teaching me as we have gone through the book.

Bible open to 1 Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians 5: 1-11

The first few verses of the chapter focus on the Day of the Lord. We know that the Day of the Lord is coming and we know that nobody knows when it will be. Until then we are encouraged to focus on faith, love, and the hope of salvation.

I love the encouragement to encourage and to build each other up.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-28

The final instructions in the chapter and book are so striking. They paint such a beautiful picture of how we are to treat each other. My favorite verses in this chapter were 12-15.

Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.  And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.  Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-15

Encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. I’m not the most patient person and I love that I have these words to help keep in the front of my mind how I am to look to helping love those around me in different ways.

This week was again short so I read it through a couple of times this week and I look forward to what I’m studying in the Bible next. Have any thoughts to share on 1 Thessalonians 5? I would love to hear them in the comments below!
