Currently in church we are studying 1 Thessalonians together. I’m going to basically journal through what I’m learning as I go through the book. This by no means will be a comprehensive study or anything super academic, this is just my thoughts and questions and what I feel God is teaching me as we go through the book.
Last week I shared my thoughts on chapter 2 of 1 Thessalonians and this week I’m moving on to chapter 3.
1 Thessalonians 3:1-5
I love how Paul talks here about sending Timothy to them to strengthen them and encourage them in their faith. Community is so important to faith. Paul knew that trials were coming for them all. Life is hard. We need each other to strengthen and encourage each other. And Paul knew that with their faith being new that it was going to be tested and sent Timothy to help them.
1 Thessalonians 3:6-13
I love that even in the midst of “distress and persecution” (verse 7) Paul found encouragement in hearing a good report about the faith of the Thessalonians. I love how he ends his letter with a prayer for them.
Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you. May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
1 Thessalonians 3:11-13
Praying for each other is such a sweet privilege. It’s a great way to encourage each other in our faith.
This was short and sweet so I read it through a couple of times this week and I look forward to learning more as I go. Have any thoughts to share? I would love to hear them in the comments below!
