Free Printable First Day of School Signs 2026

I feel like summer is still in full swing, but I know for some families school begins this week! If you've been around the blog for a little while then you know that each year I love to come up with a first day of school sign for my kids to hold on the first day while I grab a picture of them. It’s so much fun to look back on each year’s picture and compare their growth from the prior years. I’m sharing my free printable first day of school signs 2026 edition with you all so that you can have fun with the same tradition!

For this year’s color I went with a Kelly green color. I made a sign for each grade from Preschool through 12th Grade. I also made a sign that just says “First Day of School” with no grade on it just in case you want to snap a picture of all of your kiddos together.

Recommendations

I recommend that you print your sign onto cardstock or better yet print it out and pop it into a frame to keep your child from wrinkling the paper. If you do decide to use a frame then take the glass out so that there is no glare in your photos.

For best results you will also want to get outside and take your pictures in natural light. Don’t use a flash and try to position your kid so that the sun is not in his or her eyes. Try to give yourself a few extra minutes on the first day of school so that you’re not rushed and you can take a few good photos.
