Tassels are still a big trend right now and making your own tassel earrings is so simple. Seriously, this project checks all the boxes for the DIY project trifecta- easy, inexpensive, and quick to make. Today I’m sharing my tutorial for how to make tassel earrings so that you can make a pair (or a few pairs!) of your own.
To make your own tassel earrings you will need:
- 1 skein of embroidery floss (or 2 if you want more full tassels)
- jump rings
- earring wires
- needle nose pliers
How to Make Tassel Earrings
Step 1: Unwrap a length of the embroidery floss that’s twice as long as the skein. Cut it off.
Step 2: Use your needle-nose pliers to open up one of the jump rings and loop it into one end of the skein. Slide one of the earring wires onto the jump ring and use the needle-nose pliers to close up the jump ring.
Step 3: Take the piece of embroidery floss that you cut off in Step 1. Cut it in half. Take one half and tie it around the end of the skein that you added the jump ring and ear wire to.
Knot it two times. Then position the strings from the tie so that they line up with the rest of the skein. Then cut to the desired length.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with the other side of the skein and you’re done!
If you want you can unravel the strands of your tassels and fluff them up as much as you want. I love that this is a craft that you can completely customize.
You can double them up and use two skeins to make your tassels extra thick, you can make them longer or shorter and there’s so many colors of embroidery floss so you can make earrings in almost any color you like.
Now that you know how to make tassel earrings what colors will you make them in? Let me know in the comments below!
