Some people collect stamps, or coins, or ceramic pigs… I’m starting to think I collect headbands. Many months ago I bought some elastic and I just keep making more headbands but they’re so useful! As a mom I don’t always have time to tame my mane so I use a headband to control and distract attention away from the bad hair.
Here’s my latest:
It’s super simple. You know by now I don’t do complicated. Here’s what you need:
- 1/2 inch elastic to make headband (or you can cheat and start with a pre-made one)
- felt
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
Step 1: Make a headband from elastic. I cut a piece of elastic to 21 inches and then sewed over the two overlapped ends to form a loop. Or you can begin with a ready-made headband if you don’t want to have to sew. The rest of this tutorial is no-sew.
Step 2: Cut three pieces of felt. The rectangles should measure 1 X3 inches, 1 X 6 inches, and 1 X 8 inches.
Step 3: Take the 6 inch long rectangle and fold the ends over so that they meet in the middle. Use a few dabs of glue to hold the ends down. Repeat this step with the 8 inch long rectangle.
Step 4: Glue the smaller loop on top of the larger one. Then glue them onto the elastic headband, over the part where you sewed it.Step 5: Take the remaining piece of felt (the 3 inch one) and lay it across the front of the two loops. Fold the ends over to the back and glue them into place.
That’s it! Easy peezy lemon squeezy!
These would be so cute in a variety of colors, especially for a little girl. And felt is super inexpensive, so you could make a whole rainbow of them.
Let me know in the comments if you make one. I’d love to hear all about it!
