School just ended for my son. With long, busy days in summer ahead I like to keep a bunch of healthy snacks available and within reach so that my son can get them himself. I dedicated one shelf in the fridge to store all the snacks, and today I’m sharing my simple snack organization system with you.
I have two bins that I divided in half. The first one has fruits and veggies in it. Right now I have Mott’s® Applesauce Pouches and grapes for fruit. For veggies, I have sugar peas and carrots.
I like to make individual portions of each snack ahead of time so that they are easy to grab and go. The easiest are the applesauce pouches because those come already portioned out. Right now the Mott’s Applesauce pouches have characters from The Secret Life of Pets on them and my son thinks they are really cute.
I love that I can prep a bunch of snacks ahead of time and have them portioned and ready to go when it’s snack time. Each time he has a snack he has to choose something from a different category. My son is learning to read but for now the pictures and colors help him know which foods are the same category.
He knows that if he had a veggie already that now he needs to pick something from one of the other categories. This way he gets some choice – grapes or applesauce, carrots or sugar peas – but he is learning the importance of eating a variety of healthy foods in order to get a variety of nutrients for his body.
