Easter is a little later this year but it always comes quicker than I think. At the library the other day I started to gather up a few Easter books for my kids. I’ve put together a list of the Easter story books for kids that we love along with some of the new ones we discovered this year.
Now I’ve titled this post “The Easter Story Books for Kids” because I’m focusing on books that help teach kids the Easter Story from the Bible. We have fun decorating eggs and giving our kids Easter baskets but we always want to make sure that we are helping our children to learn the Biblical story of Easter, of Jesus’s death and resurrection, of victory over sin.
The Easter Story Books for Kids
God Gave Us Easter
God Gave Us Easter is my favorite one of all! It really strikes a great balance between celebrating all the festive parts of Easter without skipping out on the importance of Christ’s death and resurrection.
This beautiful conversation between a little bear and his Papa bear helps my son to understand some difficult things, such as why Jesus had to die and how we even as adults do not like death, but that out of death comes life. “Because God gave us Easter, we can be a part of Something Bigger- and even though we talk to Jesus now, in heaven we will see Jesus face to face.”
There are other books in this series featuring these same bears and we will definitely be buying some of them.
He Is Risen: Rocks Tell the Story of Easter
I found He is Risen: Rocks Tell the Story of Easter at the library and it’s such a creative book.
Mary’s Easter Story
Mary’s Easter Story is a thin paperback book from the Arch Books series of Bible stories. It tells the story from the perspective of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
This is the Gospel
I adore the graphic illustrations in This Is The Gospel. The bright colors are very appealing to my kids and I love how it presents the Easter story.
Easter Love Letters from God
Easter Love Letters from God is a new one for us this year and my kindergartener is in love! He loves to lift the flaps and hear each love letter from God.
The Story of Easter
The Story of Easter is a great board book for littles. It has a wonderful text that rhymes and even a little handle on the outside for them to carry the book around.
Bibles for Kids that We Love
I’m sharing some of our favorite Bibles below just in case you are looking for more Bible resources for your kids.
Read with Me Bibles
We have the Read with Me Bible for Toddlers and we loved using this one when our boys were toddlers and preschoolers. The pictures are lively and the kids love them.
There is also a board book version of this called the Read with Me Bible for Little Ones. It has more simplified versions of the stories.
The Hear Me Read Bible
The Hear Me Read Bible is perfect for your early reader! Our kindergartener loves that he can read the stories to us from this one. I highly recommend this one. They also came out with The Hear Me Read Bible Level 2 for 6-8 year olds and I think I need to get that one for next year.
The Jesus Story Book Bible
We love to read The Jesus Story Book Bible to both our elementary-aged boys. As the tagline perfectly says “every story whispers his name”. It beautifully shows how each story from the Bible points to Jesus. There’s also a beautiful gift version that we like to give as part of a baby shower gift.
