Old School Desk

I love summer for many reasons, one of those reasons being yard sales.  The thrill of the hunt for a bargain, never knowing what you’ll find is exhilarating.  Here is one of my finds from this summer that I LOVE.

I scored this baby for $1!  I know she looks a little rough in the before photo, but I saw her hidden beauty, the potential of what she could be.

And after a little lot of cleaning, sanding, staining, and painting, here she is:

From my thorough five minutes research online, I think the desk is from the 1940s.  A loves the desk and has claimed it for his own since the day we found it.

I’m not sure exactly where it will end up in our home, but I LOVE it.  And I love that the total cost of this desk was less than $10.

Cost Breakdown:

Desk- $1

Spray Paint- $8.50 (2 cans @ $4.25 each)

Stain- $0 (leftover from another project)

Poly- $0 (leftover from another project)

Total- $9.50

If you see a little diamond in the rough like this at a garage sale, snap it up!  It did take some work, but if you’re willing to put in some time then you could have a great piece that adds a bit of vintage fun to your home for very little money.  Plus, if your kids are like mine and love furniture that’s just their size, then they’ll love it too!

Have any of you ever transformed a garage sale find with a little paint and elbow grease?  If you have, I’d love to hear all about it.  If you haven’t, I totally encourage you to go for it!

Oh, great find! And great job restoring it! It looks beautiful. Reminds me of the desk I had in school ... not that I'm from the 1940's or anything. :-)

Thanks! No one would think you're from the 40s!
