A dear friend of mine is due very soon and I’m so excited for her! I love to make baby gifts and decided to make a few for her baby boy. She loves penguins and polar bears and so I pulled together a collection of modern fabrics for her to choose from. You can read that round up post here.
One of her favorites was the middle left one. I used that fabric as the main fabric for a baby blanket for her baby boy. And now that she has received it I can show it to you all without spoiling the surprise!
I selected coordinating fabrics focusing mainly on pulling out the blue and black from the penguin fabric. Once I had picked out the coordinating fabrics I sketched out a few plans to figure out what I wanted the quilt to look like.
I then began cutting pieces from each fabric. I’m very visual and so I need to see things together before I know if they work so I moved things around until they looked right to me.
Then I sewed everything together to make the quilt top, attached it to the backing, and topstitched the outline of each rectangle.
I made a bib and a few burp cloths to coordinate with the baby quilt. I forgot to snap a picture of the burp cloths but I made one from the penguin fabric, one from the blue chevron, and one from the black and white criss cross lines.
If you’re interested in making your own baby gifts you can check out my bib tutorial and my burp cloth tutorial.
