What I’m Learning in the Bible: 1 Thessalonians 4

Recently in church we studied 1 Thessalonians together. I’m going to basically journal through what I’m learning as I go through the book. This by no means will be a comprehensive study or anything super academic, this is just my thoughts and questions and what I feel God is teaching me as we have gone through the book.

1 Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

The first few verses speak to pleasing God. As someone who struggles as a people pleaser I tried to meditate on these verses a few times. I love that to please God we are called to be sanctified and live a holy life. I love this teaching:

“and make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

I loved this section about hope, grief, and the second coming of Christ. We believe that Jesus died and rose again. And so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. We grieve our loved ones who we have lost. But we grieve differently… with hope.

This week was again short and sweet so I read it through a couple of times this week and I look forward to learning more as I go. Have any thoughts to share? I would love to hear them in the comments below!
