I love summer food. Fresh produce. Ice Cream. Grilling. Oh how I love food from the grill. The grill is magical. I feel like you could grill cardboard and it would taste fantastic.
We don’t really grill cardboard around here. One of our mainstays is burgers. I love to make fun burger recipes and today I’m sharing my recipe for the Cheesy Pretzel burgers we made this weekend.
First we made a trip to Giant Eagle to get everything we needed. Giant Eagle is the go-to grilling headquarters because they not only have everything that you need but they have a huge amount of variety. They have burgers, drinks, kerosene, fresh baked buns, everything you need to make great sides, and more.
Here’s what I got to make the burgers:
- Market District Gourmet Seasoned Beef Burgers, Certified Angus Beef
- Kraft Natural Cheese Slices
- Pretzel buns from the bakery
- one onion
- 1/4 cup of Hellman’s mayonnaise
- 1 Tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup of stadium-stye mustard
Here’s how I made the burgers:
Step 1: Caramelize the onions. Then set them aside.
Step 2: While the onions are caramelizing combine the mayonnaise, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and stadium-style mustard to make the special sauce.
Step 3: Grill the burgers.
Step 4: Assemble the burgers. Place the bottom bun on the plate. Spread on the special sauce. Then add on the burger. Top with a slice of cheese. Then add the caramelized onions and top with the top of the bun.
I served our burgers with a fresh salad and some Aquafina Sparkling. I love having something refreshing and fruity to drink in the summer.
We finished dinner off with the perfect summer dessert- Breyer’s ice cream.
What sort of fancy burgers do you like to make? I’d love to hear about it in the comments! And don’t forget to check out all the great burgers and other grilling supplies at your local Giant Eagle. Need more grilling ideas? Take a look at these Summer of Grilling ideas.

I don't eat red meat, but those buns look delicious! I bet they would taste great with grilled chicken. I'm guessing you live somewhere near me, considering you have a Giant Eagle, too!

The buns would be perfect with grilled chicken as well or even a turkey burger. We're not too far (you're in Pittsburgh I think?). We live near Akron, Ohio.
