Bibles for Preschoolers & Elementary Kids: Our Faves

I was organizing our kids’ Bibles the other night and thought it might be helpful to some of you all if I shared our favorite Bibles for preschoolers and elementary kids.

We have a ton of Bibles for kids and I wanted to share what I think are the best Bibles for preschoolers and elementary kids along with a peek inside each.

We have a lot of Bibles. Some of them we have bought but many of them were gifts (we are so blessed!). I’m going to run through our favorites with you all, tell you a little about each and give you a peek inside. Hopefully this will help some of you decide on a Bible you might be considering for your kids.

Also, just as a note… Just because I put a certain Bible into a certain age category doesn’t mean it can’t be used for another age group. I still use some books aimed at toddlers and preschoolers with my elementary-aged sons and we’ve read aloud to them from some of the elementary-level books since they were squishy babies so feel free to use the books as you see fit. These are loose age recommendations.

Read with Me Bible for Toddlers

I know, the title is Read with Me Bible for Toddlers but we used this one long past the toddler stage with my boys and it is at the top of my list of best Bibles for preschoolers. We still snuggle up and read from this Bible story book with our little one at night some nights. It has 24 stories from the Bible.

The pictures and stories are lively and keep kids’ attention. We also have the Read with Me Bible for Little Ones which is a much shorter board book version of this one that I think is great for toddlers and babies. There is a Read with Me Bible version for kids 4-8 that looks really great. It has 106 Bible stories so I think it would be great just based on my love for the younger two versions that we have.

The Hear Me Read Bible

Depending on how early of a reader your child is I would recommend this for kids who are 4-6. My older son was gifted a Hear Me Read Bible for his preschool graduation a few years ago. These are written so that your kids can read them to you. My younger son is in kindergarten right now and he is so proud that he can read the Bible to me.

My kids have each loved this Bible particularly when they’re like half way through kindergarten and they are growing some in their reading skills. Each story is written with just a few simple words. They love that when I have devotion time in my own Bible that they can get their Bible out and read it to themselves.

We just got The Hear Me Read Bible 2 in the mail yesterday. My son has been loving the first one so much that I had to order the second one. The Hear Me Read Bible 2 is written at a higher reading level than the first. These stories are a little longer and include more words so he will have to grow into this one a little bit. I’d recommend this one more for ages 6-8 so technically I’d put it in the elementary category but I wanted to talk about it with the first one so it’s here.

Read Me a Bible Story 365

If you are looking for bite-sized Bible stories for each day then Read Me a Bible Story 365 is the perfect book. This is a great read-aloud for when you are short on time. Unlike a lot of Bibles for preschoolers this one has a lot of stories in it.

Little Boys Bible Storybook

Our older son was given the Little Boys Bible a few years ago and we enjoyed this one for a number of years. Each story has a little application section at the end.

The Jesus Storybook Bible

Oh, how we love The Jesus Storybook Bible! It’s just so beautifully written and I love how it draws out that every story in the Bible points to Jesus. There is also a really beautiful gift version of The Jesus Storybook Bible that we have given to a few loved ones as part of a baby shower gift.

The Character Builder’s Bible

The Character Builder’s Bible has a huge emphasis on application of Bible stories. I love to use this one sometimes with my Sunday School class.

The Story Bible

Don’t let the really traditional illustrations scare you away from this one… The Story Bible is one of my 9 year old’s favorites. This was a gift and it’s been amazing for him. He reads it on his own and he learns so much. I love the “Ask. Do. Pray.” section at the end of each story that helps him apply what he learns. This one is also huge and includes a large number of stories which we love.

Adventure Bible

When our son was about 7 he asked for a “real” Bible, one with “all the verses”. We looked through a bunch and the NIY Adventure Bible was our favorite. He loves having a real Bible now and I think this one is well written with great information for kids. It also comes in other cover styles and colors so you can probably find something your kiddo likes.

Family Devotional Books

I wanted to include a few devotional books. These are typically shorter with less pictures but I think they are great for spending a little time together reading some verses and sparking conversation about what we are learning together.

Jesus Calling

Lately we have been reading Jesus Calling for Kids together as a family after dinner. The daily devotional readings are the perfect length to read together as a family for a few minutes after dinner.

Our Daily Bread for Kids

Our Daily Bread for Kids is another one that’s great for a family devotional time together. This one has more illustrations so it’s a little more visually appealing so you might want to have your kid snuggle up beside you to read this one.

Activity Books

For older preschoolers and elementary kids I love these sticker and activity books that I found at the Dollar Store. They are not huge but I think well worth the $1 that I paid. If you can’t find these there are a few Bible sticker book options on Amazon.

Kids Read Truth Activity Books

We have the Kids Read Truth Kids Read Romans and Kids Read 1 & 2 Corinthians. These are great for maybe like 2nd to 5th graders to spend some time meditating on the scriptures. There’s some activities, copywork, stickers, and great illustrations.
