I’m reading through Genesis right now as a part of the Good Morning Girls Reading Through the Bible plan. And this week one verse just popped out to me more than any other:
But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept. (Genesis 33:4)
Totally unexpected, right? Last time we saw Esau he was plotting about killing Jacob. And yet when Jacob returns years later Esau embraces him. And I don’t think it’s because of the gifts Jacob brought him. I think we’re seeing the fruit of forgiveness. I love it. I love this part of their story.
It reminds me so much of another story, the story of the lost son. A son leaves home and wastes all his money. He eventually returns home and we read the story in Luke 15: 11-32.
And they began to celebrate. I love it! Totally undeserved love and forgiveness. Just like Jesus. I love all these stories that reflect the love and forgiveness of Christ. This week I’m reflecting on that love and I hope that you are too. I hope that you know that God loves you very much and gave His only Son for you. If you haven’t yet, accept His forgiveness and let Him embrace you. He’s just waiting for you to come to Him… He’ll come running.
