flank steak marinade recipe

Date night doesn’t have to be difficult in order to be special. A few simple sparkling touches can elevate any date night. Good food and drink are key.  One of our staple dishes for a special night in is marinated flank steak.  I originally got this flank steak marinade recipe from my aunt and have modified it a bit so I’m sharing my version with you now.  You will want to make this for your next date night.

For the flank steak marinade recipe you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup of red wine
  • a 1- 1.5 pound flank steak

Step 1: Whisk the flank steak marinade recipe ingredients together and put them into a plastic bag.  Add in the flank steak, seal the bag, place it into a casserole dish and pop into the refrigerator.  Allow it to marinade over night.  I usually flip the bag over in the morning.

Step 2: Take the meat out to grill.  When you take it out of the marinade try to shake it a little to get any excess marinade off of the meat.  You do not want it to be too wet.  Discard the marinade.

Step 3: Grill the flank steak to your desired doneness.  We tend to grill it for about 5-8 minutes per side but it all really depends upon the thickness of your cut of meat and how well done you want it to be.  We use a meat thermometer and I totally recommend using one to ensure your steak is cooked the way you want it (and safely cooked!).

Step 4: Take the meat off the grill and let it rest for at least 5-10 minutes.  Cut it into thin slices, going diagonally across the grain.

Our steak was thicker on one side and thinner on the other so one end was well done and the other was more medium.

I like to serve my flank steak with a great vegetable and a fresh salad.

And when making a special meal don’t forget about a special drink!  I served smartwater sparkling for a special touch.
