I love to decorate for the changing seasons and holidays. With two little kids I like to keep things easy though and so today I’m sharing a super simple tutorial with you for how to make your own felt leaf garland.
Here is what you will need:
- felt (I used a few of the small felt sheets from the craft store)
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- twine
- leaf outline pdf
The amount of material you will need will depend on how long you want your garland to be.
Step 1: Print out the leaf outline pdf.
Step 2: Cut out the leaf outlines from the paper.
Step 3: Trace the leaves onto the felt and then cut them out. To make the garland you will be sandwiching the leaves together with the twine in the middle so you want to make sure you cut out at least a pair of each leaf from the same color.
Step 4: Lay out your leaves to figure out the positioning you like. Lay one of your leaves down and glue the twine on top of it. Then glue a leaf of the same shape and color on top of it, sandwiching the twine between the two.
Step 5: Keep going until you have as many leaves as you want on the garland. And you’re done!
The fun thing about garlands is that you can use them in a traditional sense by hanging them on a fireplace mantle or above a doorway but you can also use them as a fun accent piece on a table.
For my fall table decor I have a striped table cloth in fall colors. I laid my garland on top and added two American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand candles.
I picked up my American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand candles on a recent trip to Walmart.
The American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand candles burn clean from start to finish and offer high quality, rich fragrances that last a long time. They come in a wide array of inspired, seasonal fragrances including Sugar Coated Cinnamon, Fresh Balsam Fir, and Sweet & Salty Caramel. I chose the Homemade Pumpkin Pie and Bountiful Harvest fragrances because they feel like fall to me.
There are certain fragrances I grew up with and I strongly associate them with certain seasons and holidays so now I like to use those candle fragrances in my own home. The Yankee Candle® brand is high quality and the brand that my mom uses so I knew it was a brand I could trust in my own home.
The exclusive American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand collection brings the quality of this brand I grew up loving to Walmart. I love that I can now purchase the American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand at Walmart while picking up other necessities on my regular shopping trip.
For safety and best experience please remember to follow all candle instructions.
- Only burn candles on heat resistant surfaces and never ever leave them burning unattended.
- To prevent the flame from getting too big be sure to cut candle wicks 1/8 of an inch.
- When you burn your candle, let the whole top layer become a fragrant pool of liquid wax in order to get the fullest fragrance experience.
- When only half an inch of the wax is left then it’s time to let your candle go. Remove the remaining wax and find a cool way to re-purpose the glass jar!
Do you burn candles as a part of your seasonal decor experience? What are your favorite fragrances?
Be sure to check out the American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand candles. Walmart has a variety of fragrances and sizes.

So cute! This year I have finally decided to take time to decorate for Fall and this garland is perfect and easy-I think I still have leftover felt from another project as well. Thanks for sharing. :)

You're welcome! I used mostly leftover felt so I was excited to make this without buying too much.

Oh yes, if you can make a wreath you can totally do a garland like this. :)
