It’s finally Friday. I don’t know about you but this week was long. After a busy week I am looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. Hopefully my children are on board with that plan. Here’s my favorites from this week:
[one] Food Love
I have been in the mood for White Chicken Chili all week long and I’m making it a priority to make some this weekend. I’m going to try this recipe by the Neelys but let me know if you have a favorite that you would recommend!
I picked up Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, Hibiscus the other night and I love it. It’s just the right hint of color that I need and makes my lips feel good which is important this time of year.
[three] Dish Towel Love
I know it’s just a dish towel but it might be one of my favorite things I’ve ever made.
This time of year I am always thankful for my trusty North Face Metropolis Down Parka. My parents got it for me the Christmas before I moved to Ohio from Virginia and it is wonderful. Life in the winter is just so much more bearable when you’re properly dressed. I’m always taking pictures of everyone else so I’m never in the picture. Therefore the only full length picture of me in this coat is at 9 months pregnant with son #1… which is super flattering. So I’ll spare you that and leave you with this photo. If you want to see the full length picture look at the one in the listing.
Our dog Lucky recently turned 1 and the past few weeks he has calmed down dramatically and become super snugly. I’m not sure if it’s the weather or his new-found adulthood but we are loving all the cozy snuggles! He still loves to play and will chew toys if the boys leave them out so there’s still some puppy in him.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend and here’s hoping that we all get to sleep in tomorrow!

Oh that Burts Bees looks fantastic. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for that. White Chicken Chili is a favorite of mine, especially with this cold weather!

Happy Birthday Lucky!! Our dog turned 10 this month! We don't know the exact day since we got him at the shelter. But he was a puppy so they estimated January :-)
That coat is gorgeous!! I am really glad for the thoughts on it because I have been wanting/needing to buy a warm coat for ages. I've tried several, but I swear I can feel the wind right through them. Do you find you still need a lot of layers with it?

So here's the deal with The North Face. My coat for example is one of the ones that is filled with down feathers. Some of the jackets are down and some are synthetic. They have different levels of down and insulation. I love my coat and I feel like it is super warm, but I think that there are coats that have even more insulation than mine. I can't really speak too much to the other coats but I love mine. We get pretty cold temps here in Ohio (the average windchill in the mornings when I took my son to school this week was negative all week long) and this coat does very well for me. I don't feel the need to layer up under it. This performs hands down way, way better than any of my wool coats... even one that I have that's lined with thinsulate.
But I typically use it just for running errands, etc. If I were to spend an extended time outside then I would layer up under this. If you walk to work in a cold city, for example you might want to opt for one of The Northface coats that's got a bit more bulk to it. Mine is intended to be well insulated but they also tried to make it less bulky so it's not their warmest of coats. Hopefully this little ramble makes sense! My advice would be to try some of them on if you can, but yes, I totally recommend the brand.
